The Importance of a Healthy Self Image
Children form opinions of themselves early in their lives, and that opinion is shaped by the most important people in that child*s life: the parents. It is incumbent that children see themselves in a positive light so that they will not go through life thinking they are less than, not able to cultivate the best parts of themselves, and accept sub par treatment not only from others outside of themselves. They will not indulge in behavior that is self destructive.

Most young girls learn from their parents self love and self respect, in particular from the father figure in her life. This man teaches her what is acceptable behavior from other males, he shows her how she should be treated by a man, and he shows her how valuable she is by offering her a certain type of protection only a father can give.

If young women don*t see the value that God has placed on them by the attitudes and lessons learned at home through loving and strong parenting, then they will begin to accept disrespect from others all the while disrespecting themselves.

Media 1: a medium of cultivation, conveyance, or expression.
Mass medium: a medium of communication (as newspapers, radio, or television) that is designed to reach the mass of the people.

Im*age: a popular conception (as of a person, institution, or nation) projected especially through the mass media.

Have you noticed how we are being presented to the public? Occasionally, media has reported that we are deeply concerned about our community. However, the majority of the coverage has painted a different picture. It appears that reporting negative images is the order of the day.

If this is true, what can we do about it?

Major Issues

By Brother Earl Muhammad

Greetings Brothers and Sisters.

Do you know that *No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury?**

Do you know that *In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed?**

Finally, *Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.*

How many of us can be categorized as being either a modern day slave or ex-slave?

Education

By Brother DeAndre' L. Muhammad

A true and proper education secures the natural essentials of life for the human being which is freedom, justice and equality. It frees the human being mentally to see their unlimited potential for excellence and mastery. It also opens the door for us to justify our existence as the crown of the Creator*s creation. Therefore as a result of the aforementioned, it provides the equality for all of us to equally express the uniqueness that is in all us. We need this kind of educational system to replace a corrupt educational system that is designed to dumb down the masses for the benefit of the elite classes.

By Sister Valerie L. Muhammad

*As summer approaches, so many of us look forward to the arrival of fresh berries. Blueberries, strawberries and many others are not only tasty and naturally sweet, but are loaded with tons of nutritional benefits as well. Strawberries are packed with vitamin C which helps our immune system. Blueberries are loaded too with minerals and antioxidants. Remember the expression, *The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.* There*s truth to it. The pigments that give berries their color, especially the blues and reds, contain substances called phytochemicals and flavonoids that help reduce and prevent some diseases like cancer. Additionally sisters, don*t forget those cranberries. They*re wonderful at helping to prevent urinary tract infections.

So, let*s eat some tasty berries!
